The Udine International School is an English school for students of all nationalities, both boys and girls, committed to promoting international understanding and values.

The school currently has 260 students on roll, predominantly of Italian nationality, from 2 years of age through to 14, and is located in North-Eastern Italy (near Venice, Austria and Slovenia), set on a beautiful campus with modern facilities.

The school is the newest member of the International Education Systems group and has a commitment to promoting international education within the school and across the group.

The school was accredited by the Council of International Schools in December 2015 and maintains a strong, ongoing commitment to the process of school improvement. Staff members will be expected to participate in professional development related to this aim.

Essential Requirements

As well as a strong academic grounding in Education, all successful candidates will need to be enthusiastic educators with a demonstrated ability to improve student learning outcomes, along with the organisational skills required to successfully manage teaching, planning and assessment loads. Teachers appointed also need to be able to quickly and successfully adapt to a new working environment and the culture of a non-English speaking country, while simultaneously managing the daily working demands of being in a fee-paying International school.

Teachers need to be able to implement well developed and efficient classroom management strategies that are appropriate for the stages of development for the age groups to be taught. Teachers must be willing to work as part of section teams and contribute to the positive work place environment. They will also need to demonstrate an understanding of, and support for, the School’s Mission and Vision and overall educational philosophy.

All teachers appointed will be required to contribute to the school’s ongoing curriculum development and review in their subject areas.

Prospective Teachers must be English mother tongue (or have an equivalent level of spoken and written English) and hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree or equivalent diploma, preferably in Education, along with a teaching certification.

Only candidates who have a prior established right (as well as the necessary, valid documentation to support this right) to work in Italy, will be considered for the advertised positions.

Contracts, Benefits & Housing

The contract conditions are governed by Italian law and salaries are taxed in accordance with Italian fiscal laws and where applicable, international bi-lateral conventions.

Salary levels will be set in accordance with the candidate’s qualifications and previous teaching experience and a salary and benefits indication will be communicated immediately to all shortlisted candidates.

Dependant on the position, teachers moving to Udine to take up positions from outside the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region, can benefit from a housing allowance and are eligible for a settling-in allowance, as well as transportation and baggage allowance.

After having established official residency in Italy, Teachers can benefit from the Italian national health scheme.

The school also provides a hot lunch during the school week (Monday to Friday).

Application Procedure

Before submitting their application, candidates are requested to carefully read this section and ensure all parts/requirements have been completed and included before contacting the school.

All applications must include:

  1. A covering letter or personal statement of no more than two (2) pages which specifically addresses your suitability for the role advertised.
  2. Two professional referees including your current Head of School. Referees will be contacted prior to the signing of the contracts, including the request for a confidential written reference from the current Head of School. (Referees will not be contacted prior to candidates being notified that they have been shortlisted for a position).

  4. Information regarding eligibility to work in ItalyThis may include a declaration that you are a citizen and/or hold a passport for a member state of the European Union, a current work permit or Permesso di Soggiorno for Italy, etc.

In order to comply with child safeguarding procedures, all shortlisted candidates will be required to provide a police clearance certificate from the relevant authorities in the county where they were employed prior to joining UIS. The school will also organize a police record check in Italy prior to arrival and reserves the right to contact any former employer listed on the candidate’s CV regarding suitability to work with children and professional conduct at that workplace.
